The Same Old Road

On running for dreams, names, money, fame and what we are actually looking for underneath.

We came by the same old road,
Under the same old sky,
But somewhere along the way,
We learned a different why.

Some run for the dream,
Some run for the name,
Some run after money,
Some run after fame.

Some wander to find,
Some study to know,
Some build up a life,
Some just want to go.

And money is only a promise,
A number, a borrowed claim,
A little more gives a little more,
And greed gives wanting a name.

So we run, and we run,
For the things we can hold,
For the things we can show,
For the stories we're told.

But beneath all the wanting,
Beneath all the race,
We're only looking for laughter,
A home, a warm place.

For someone to love us,
For somewhere to belong,
For a little bit of silence,
When the whole world feels wrong.

So look at the stars,
Before you look away,
Walk out into the night,
Let the wanting lose its weight.

You may run till you're weary,
You may never know why,
Or you may stop for a moment
And simply see the sky.

And if nothing is promised,
And nothing is known,
What's the harm in the journey,
If you walk it your own?

For we're not here to have everything,
Nor win every race.
Perhaps we're only here
To feel,
To love,
To live,
And find our place.
